Who is your practitioner?
I trained as a physiotherapist in 1974 and as a Buteyko practitioner in 1997. I am qualified to treat both mild and chronic asthma, and also asthma complicated by other health issues. A large number of the patients I treat suffer from conditions such as emphysema and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Indeed research published in the Scotland on Sunday newspaper in April 2003 indicates that up to a quarter of adults told they have asthma are in fact suffering from other complaints, such as COPD.
I have travelled to Australia and New Zealand to broaden my understanding of the Buteyko Method. In 2000 I taught a pilot study in Glasgow in preparation for a larger clinical trial subsequently undertaken over a two year period. I am a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy. I am fully insured. The inspiration to train as a Buteyko practitioner was born after my mother undertook a Buteyko course in Glasgow to help her with her longstanding asthma and bronchitis. Watching her spectacular recovery and return to health was a powerful motivator.
Buteyko Treatment
Buteyko treatment normally consists of two hourly classes on four consecutive days and a further lesson within the first fortnight. You are encouraged to attend follow up classes for as long as it is necessary or desirable. I encourage everyone to contact me if they run into difficulties with their practice or if they just want moral support. Exercises are tailored to your individual condition and medical history.
